Continuing Education in the Brewing Industry Meet-Up
TUESDAY, APRIL 21ST | 12:00 PM-1:00 PM | 210 A
A meet-up for those who promote learning in their workplace or brewing community!
The craft brewing industry attracts people who love to learn but often do not have an academic background in brewing science, food science, human resources, safety, business administration, etc. Most of us learn On-The-Job (OTJ) and look to resources from the Brewers Association, MBAA, and other organizations to supplement what we have learned at our breweries. We also learn from our peers through forums, conferences, and brewer social gatherings. This meet-up is for those who provide these educational resources (state guilds, MBAA districts, and more), as well as for those in breweries who either have or want to have robust continuing education programs. Join us over a few beers as we discuss our experiences, triumphs, and failures in helping our co-workers, employees, and fellow brewers access continuing education opportunities.
Hosts: Lauren Gerfen, HR Manager at COOP Ale Works in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Campbell Morrissy, Chair – Technical & Safety Committee, Arizona Craft Brewers Guild & Director of Brewery Operations at Mother Road Brewing Company in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Taproom Brewery Meet-Up

Whether your brewery has already classified itself as a Taproom, or even if you are just interested to learn more, we’re looking forward to meeting you, hearing your ideas, and sharing a beer!
Semester by Semester: College Town Brewery Meet-Up
TUESDAY, APRIL 21ST | 4:00 PM-5:00 PM | 006 B
This Meet-Up explores the opportunities and challenges of brewing in college communities. College or university towns, those spaces characterized by and dependent on the higher education industry, present a unique set of demographic and socio-economic variables for breweries to consider. Participants are invited to come together to discuss methods for discerning prevailing tastes among diverse academic bodies (undergraduates, older graduate and professional students, faculty, and support staff), approaches to designing recipes, planning tap lineups, implementing promotions and special events to appeal to those bodies, and strategies for managing the seasonal fluctuations in campus populations – specifically how to take advantage of high seasons like football, basketball, graduation, etc. – and how to contend with slower periods following the student summer exodus. This Meet-Up welcomes current and prospective professional brewers, brewery owners, and taproom managers to share their experiences, insights, and questions toward mutually navigating and flourishing in these dynamic spaces.
Host: Aaron Delgaty, Assistant Brewer at Top of the Hill Brewery & Restaurant in Chapel Hill, North Carolina
