Christian Amport Christian is founder and president of Overshores Brewing Company in Connecticut. Ron Barchet

CEO & Brewmaster, Victory Brewing Company

Ron Barchet Ron and his childhood friend Bill Covaleski met on a school bus in 1973; 23 years later, after working in pioneering microbreweries and studying in Germany, Ron and Bill founded Victory Brewing Company. After some homebrewery experimentation, Ron decided to turn brewing into a career. He secured an apprenticeship at the Baltimore Brewing Company under the German-trained Dutch brewmaster Theo deGroen, to fulfill prerequisites before traveling to German to attend the Technical University of Munich at Weihenstephan. Dick Cantwell Dick Cantwell is a 20-year veteran of Seattle craft brewing. Since 1996 he has been head brewer at Elysian Brewing Company, which now has three pub locations and is currently engaged in opening a production brewery during the coming summer. In addition to brewing, he has written for many beer publications and in 1997 published the Brewers Publications stylebook on Barley Wine with Fal Allen. John Carlson

Executive Director, Colorado Brewers Guild

John Carlson In 1996, John became the first executive director of the Colorado Brewers Guild. The guild is a non-profit corporation representing the business and legislative interests of the Colorado craft brewer. John represents the guild and its members on both the state and federal level. He played a large role in creating the guild’s annual beer-lover event, the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous held in Salida every July. Carlson is active in the local homebrew community and sits on the steering committee of the Rocky Mountain Microbrewing Symposium. John earned his law degree from the University of Denver and an MBA from the University of Colorado. Tony-Cayko Tony received his bachelor of accountancy as well as his bachelor of business administration in management from the University of North Dakota in 1997. A farm kid from North Dakota, Tony has been in food manufacturing for more than 10 years. He has been with the Summit team since 2002, taking them from handwritten orders, Excel spreadsheets and walking papers around the office to a fully integrated ERP/MRP system in just under five years. Larry Chase

Larry Chase After leaving seminary in 1997, Larry decided a brewing career was his higher calling. He first learned on the job and then attended the American Brewers Guild course in 1998. He subsequently worked at two other brewpub companies before landing at his current position at Standing Stone Brewing Co. in Ashland, Oregon. Cheri Chastain Cheri is the sustainability coordinator at Sierra Nevada. Cheri has been with the company for six years and is responsible for educating employees on environmental issues and programs, maintaining current policies and projects, and working on new project development. Among many tasks, Cheri is responsible for Sierra Nevada’s GHG inventory, monitoring energy use, conservation, and generation, managing waste avoidance, recycling and composting efforts, researching and implementing alternative fuel options and works toward water conservation and reuse. Dave Colt

David Colt Dave is the co-founder and head brewer at Sun King Brewing Co. He began his professional brewing career at Circle V Brewing in Indianapolis circa 1996. He later moved to the Ram Restaurant and Brewery, where he was the Head Brewer from 2002 to 2009 when he left to open Sun King with friend and fellow brewer, Clay Robinson. Sun King began production in 2009 and has grown from 500 barrels their first six months to producing over 15,000 barrels in 2012. Sun King self-distributes all of their beer in Indiana and has been honored with twelve Great American Beer Festival medals and five World Beer Cup awards.

Gwen Conley

Quality Control Director, Port Brewing Co./ The Lost Abbey

Gwen Conley Gwen holds the position of director of brewery production and quality assurance at Port Brewing/The Lost Abbey. She is responsible for overseeing and managing the brewhouse, packaging, production planning/scheduling, quality control laboratory and brewery maintenance. Gwen was previously the quality assurance director at Flying Dog Brewery and flavor panel leader at Ball Corporation. She also was a biology teacher and environmental chemist. Decelle Art Arthur J. DeCelle is counsel in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, based in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office. Josh Deth

Owner/Brewer, Revolution Brewing

Josh-Deth Josh Deth is chairman of the party at Revolution Brewing in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. Revolution Brewing operates two facilities, an award-winning brewpub and a 50,000 square foot production brewery that is rapidly expanding. Previously he owned Handlebar, a small vegetarian bar and grill with a cozy beer garden and plenty of bike parking out back. After landing his first brewery job cleaning kegs at age 20, Josh later spent three years at Goose Island Beer Company. Mike Doehnel Mike started farming and malting in 1998 during and after a 30-year career in the hotel and foodservice industry; 10 years before, he started homebrewing under the tutelage of Spinnakers brewmaster Jake Thomas at one of Canada’s first brewpubs. Currently, Mike is a partner in Skagit Valley Malting while continuing to run his own floor malting facility and grain farming operation on the Saanich Peninsula nearby Victoria, BC. He connected with the Driftwood Brewing Company and has been supplying them with malt for some of their seasonal brews, most recently the Sartori fresh hop IPA.

Dean Schemenauer Dean has 15 years of experience in the beer and food ingredients industries. He attributes his passion for brewing to his childhood, growing up downwind from Leinenkugel’s Brewing Co. in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. With a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Minnesota, Dean launched his career at Jacob Leinenkugel’s as a temp in keg filling where he learned all facets of the production brewing and received an IBD diploma. Dean transitioned to SAB Miller in corporate engineering after receiving an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Milwaukee. He later joined John I. Paul Schwarz Paul is a professor of plant sciences at North Dakota State University where he directs malting barley quality research and serves as the director of the Institute of Barley and Malt Sciences. He has co-authored two books, Brewing Classic Styles (Brewers Publications, 2007) and Yeast: The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation (Brewers Publications, 2010). Jamil most recently opened Heretic Brewing Company, a 30-barrel brewery in the East Bay region of California’s San Francisco Bay area.
